UBL THURSDAYs Season 2 Grand Finals is here! Globo gym a huge comeback win to be crowned Champions vs Dream team!

Andy King Thursday Mens

The UBL Finals for Thursdays is here, 2 teams that are left of the stacked 8 that started this campaign. It was Globo Gym  and Dream Team. The 3rd and 4th rank respectively and it was set to be a clash of 2 very even teams with some different dynamics on each team, when they met in the season the series was locked at 1 each so the decider would be this Grand Finals game…no bigger stage to decide who was the best of these two teams, who fought off the top 2 ranks to be here…

First quarter started with the Dream team coming out strong attacking the rim aggressively and hitting their free throws as Globo Gym tried to stop the drives from Des and Snowy which would be something they would see all game. Globo gym didn’t shoot well coming out with some shots rimming out and some short giving the rebound to the other team to run the break. With things looking bleak with about 3 minutes in the first left, Reggie K stepped on the court and off the bat hit a 3, Des fired back with one, then Reggie got another, then the intensity picked up, ending the 12-2 run..the quarter ending pretty even stat wise, Both teams not shooting well, as they warmed up for the rest of the long game, Rebounding even, but a clear opposite style of game being played with Dream team putting up 15 2 point shots to Globos 5, and Globo Gym put up 14 threes to Dream team 5… Des with 9 points and Reggie with 6 to lead scorers as we went into the 2nd quarter.

After the first quarter the teams were warmed up and ready to fire when needed as they took the court running and jumping for everything. Dream Team still able to consistently put up the drives and points as Des kept at what was working for him by penetrating the lanes and floating up shots with some touch to get his total up to 17 as Snowy got his eurostep working with 9 so far, the shooting woes continued overall for Globo, but Reggie still pushed the ball up and was locked in getting 10 points in the quarter starting to heat up. The score was 32-21 at the end of the quarter, Globo gym getting to the line helped slow the bleeding but an 11 point gap at the half would be a mission against the Dream team vets who wont let down. Rebounding was even as most other categories but Globo edged Dream team in assists, passing the ball more and trying to get the other boys going.

3rd quarter action saw the Globo gym crew get some big crucial shots that weren’t answered back by Dream team. Jacob M was waiting for the ball and was ready to fire, hitting 2 big threes to jump closer to Dream team score, and Reggie was hungry and put in another 11 points this quarter, getting to the line and hitting 2s &  3s with some slick driving to the bucket for some quick ones to catch up which they did with the help of the lockdown defence of the Globo gym crew. A 19-10 run capped off this quarter for Globo, a new game with scores only a layup difference. Des had 19 so far and Snowy with 17, doing alot of work on both ends of the court as they sat for the break before the 4th and final quarter of the finals.

The final period started and the game was anyones to claim! both sides scrambling for the last 12 minutes of their season, only one team would go home with hardware. Snowy wanted this win and came out this quarter aiming directly at the rim and no one was getting in his way, but this wasn’t enough in the end as Globo gym were grooving and feeling the momentum shift since the 3rd, they surged forward and kept the buckets piling in and the defence tight. Dream team had no answer doing what they could do to limit Globo who wound up ending the game this quarter on a 20-11 run to win the game by 7 in the end. Dream team simply outlasted in the end, a long game which tested the greatest of the Thursday night warriors, Globo gym just had the slight edge this game to come back and catch to win their first UBL title!

Top Performances this game from Dream Team were huge, but just not enough this time around to clinch the title. Des ended the game with a massive 21 point 15 rebound double double, spearheading the offense all game, whilst Snowy got the team  high for Dream team on 22points 4 rebs and 2 steals. Dylan S got 6 points and 11 rebounds in a great game and season for Dream Team, a solid crew of great ballers who just fell short this season!

Big shootouts to the top stat getters in Globo gym, Jacob Mitchell having a Robert Horry type performance hitting big shots right when Globo needed it and ended on 17 points 7 rebounds whilst the Finals MVP goes to Reggie K who put in a stellar night on both end of the floor with 34 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks and only 1 turnover. Carrying the Globo franchise through to its eventual  Championship success.

Great season to Dream Team, and well done to the Champions, Globo Gym.

And to all who competed! Well done and thankyou for being part of this season, it had many moments that will bring teams back wanting to get the title into their hands next year, stay tuned and keep ballin!
