Playoffs rolls onto its 2nd week! With some huge matchups in Div 1 and Div 2 for the Semi Finals, and the marquee matchup the Division 3 Grand Finals!
Last Season the matchup was the same, Dunkings vs Flaming Anteaters, who bounced around between div2 and 3 before landing back in Div3 with some work to do to climb the ladder, Dunkings held out their winning record and looked to complete their great season, these 2 would face off again for an epic rematch!
1st quarter had both teams nervous with the buckets not flowing yet, all stats almost even but Dunkings had the slight edge on the boards and both teams went to the bench looking for some new tactics once they say the 1st quarter play out…
The 2nd quarter saw the scoring and pace pick up and both teams were warm and keen to get the lead and keep control…Flaming Anteaters went on a run with a 10 place 4 scoring run for the quarter giving them a 14 place 10 lead to end the half. Michael B with 4 points to lead his team at the hald, and Jono A with 5, the boards were about even 27 place 25 Dunkings, Flaming Ants went to the line more giving them the edge, Dunkings not shooting well for the half.
3rd Quarter started with both teams loose and ready to battle …Dunkings were on point this quarter, Hayden hit a 3, then Sam, then Michael, then Hayden hit another in consecutive threes with only 1 bucket from Ryan G to answer this would be the run that decided the game… at the 3rd quarter horn it was 30 place 20 DUnkings, with 39 place 27 edge on the boards and hitting 6 threes to Anteaters’ 0… FG% pretty even but it was Flaming Ants inside and Dunkings outside, Ants shooting 10 more Free throws but missing 13 so far to dunkings 3… 4th quarter needed a big finish from someone to close the 10 points gap…
The 4th saw the Anteaters pick up the scoring a bit by pushing the ball inside and getting some fre throws to go, but Dunkings had their juices flowing at kept up with them only being outscored by 2 points in the final quarter and hence maintained their lead from that run of 3s, SAm B got an ANd1 to kill the Ants’ momentum and that would do it! the deadly 3rd quarter would get them their Season 4 Division 3 Championship!
Big Performances by Ballers on both teams, Anteaters, had James T hating the box and 1 but still managing 8 points and 12 boards on 57% shooting, Jono A, 8 points and 4 rebs and Jarrod B with 6 points to help out, but that wasn’t enough as Dunkings statline was a little better.
Sam B with a great game and solid DOUble Double, 13 points 10 rebounts including 3 of 4 threes great MVP performance and Vikas with a monster game on the glass with 17 rebs and 7 points , Michael got 7 also on some solid shots as Hayden gets 2 dagger 3s.
Great work Dunkings, and Unlucky Flaming Anteaters, a great matchup, maybe not the last!
THe Semi Finals was in play for the rest of the TEams and Divisions..
Div 1 had a matchup or two that had to sort out whos going to carry momentum into the Grand Finals..
2nd place The Battiers had all their troops ready to do battle with 3rd place Monstars but too many lost posessions resulted in a loss to their foes Will D got the game high in points outscoring everyone with 14 big ones to conlclude the mission . Nathan A Snapping the wrist to perfection finding the bottom of the net for 10 points on the sheet even though from the other team, Shannon B the recipient of some nice extra passes for open shots getting him 9 points which was required to keep up in this hectic game. Oscar 8& Aaron J helped out with the load getting 8 points as he pitched in to add to the score. Monstars couldn’t hit their mid range this game but got some action going on down low. Battiers too strong down the stretch as they attacked the bucket and got their slashing and cuts working to keep the lead. Battiers go through to the finals to play for it all! Monstars go home after a good season!
1st place Shaqtin’ a Fools left it till the final moments after a huge scoring run against 4th place Wet dream team and went back to the locker room with a solid Win. Lachy CR had a pretty good game scoring wise with 16 points worth of buckets in the win. . Div 2 games were head to head crowd pleasers with buckets dropping and a double OT! What more can you ask for UBL playoff basketball!?
1st place The Process had better offense than the defense of their opponent, 4th place Average joes who werent ready for them this game. Wayne J channelled Kobe and wanted the win this time, getting 18 points to ensure they get the win this round. . Luke A owning the glass and taking names in the post with 16 points in this game. Whilst on the other team, Dan M scored well but it wasnt enough as he notched 15 points, needing a few more to scrape the W. Andrew was feeling good with 14 points as he pitched in to add to the score. Av Joes came out looking to bomb some threes and get some headway into the game, but The Process had other plans, getting things going in the paint, Luke A huge down low with no1 checking him was able to draw a lot of attention and get buckets too, Av Joes ran out of options late game and kept the pace all the way to a disappointing loss and a failed back to back attmempt…unlucky this time, The Process keen for the Grand Finals, could it work out well in the big game next week?
2nd place Ken & Friends with an amzing finish and win vs 3rd place BD Ballers in a double overtime thriller that kept the crowd waiting for the next bucket to close the game Dan B was unconscious and had no remorse for the defense piling in 24 points, a much needed performance as they won the scoring matchup against the other teams leading man. . Trent F who ended up with an efficient 14 points to end his game which simply outscored the other teams leaders being, Cam B kept his average up there for the season with a nice 24 points from all over the court. , Mitchell was feeling good with 8 points helping out with the teams offensive load. Ken and Friends and BD were going back and forth so much that they needed overtime to sort things out, Cam B hitting some huge 3s to stay in the game, but the balanced approach of KaF outlasted them by the final buzzer, Dan B getting his clutch factor on with 7 points in the final overtime with BD not able to answer back with a bucket and will go home early…giving Ken and Friends a path to the Grand Finals!
