Saturday @ UOW! S21 Grand Finals! Underdogs win!! Prawns win in Div2, Mudflaps defeat the defending champs!

Andy King UBL Saturday

Grand Finals day!! The top 2 teams of Div 1 and Div 2 would come together to face off for the last game of the season, and the winners  would get the ultimate glory of being crowned UBL champions for this season 21 of UBLs original competition!

Div 1 had 2 of the top teams face off, Mudflaps and Pistons, who were #1 rank and defending champions looking to go back to back but the Mudflaps had something to say about that as they scorched the 2nd half of the season beating the #2 Has Beanz in the Semis, a dream run, with only 1 opponent left to sweep the playoffs.

1st quarter had both teams come out firing, warmed up and pumped for the game, Mudflaps started strong and had Pistons chasing them, with a combo of give and go outside shots and quick floaters from the mid range, whilst Mudflaps kept the in and out game dribbling around shifting the Pistons D and finding the Mudflap shooters to get loose and see the ball go in, Patty activating beat mode from the PG position with 9 in the quarter, matched by Greg M with 9 from Pistons.

2nd quarter was when both teams were warmed up and saw how they were approaching the game, this quarter can decide games, so it was a big one to get right, Mudflaps kept up their attack, hitting on some 3s to keep up the lead, Pistons here popping Js and sinking enough to keep the defecit to 4 points 31-27 by the end of the half, top performers so far Patty with 12 points, Will Farrar with 10 points as Mudflaps shot 46% at this point of the game, Pistons putting up more 2s and only slightly getting more rebounds, Greg M on 11 points and peter T on 6 points 8 rebs so far.

3rd quarter didn’t see much change from the previous 2, with teh defense being super tight, not allowing Pistons to get open looks, Mudflaps kept trying to get their Threes going but there just wasn’t enough space….yet, and the grind continues with no team giving an inch both shooting 41% and rebounds about even by the end of the quarter, a testament to how evenly matched the 2 teams were. Greg and Patty got Busy this quarter double each of their scores almost.

4th quarter was the last change to close the gap or put the other  team away, and with the scores drawn at 47 each going in, it was anyones game, and anyones championship to steal…The Pistons came out strong with a quick bucket and the grind looked to continue, then Todd R hit a shot from 3 to make it 52 all with 8 minutes left, then after 2 steals from Flaps he hit 2 more to make the game 60-52, Mudflaps timeout, this would be the deciding sequence in this finals as it broke the game open with 6min remaining.. There was just no coming back from that, the 10ish lead was all the Mudflaps needed to execute their safety plays as they took their time to get good shots and as a result won by 9 points and their first UBL Saturday Grand Finals win against a super talented and stacked Pistons squad who went down but not without their usual fight for everything in the name of getting the W, but this one slipped away after Todds scoring run, and so did the hopes of a two peat. Carlson and crew pulling together to complete the dream run and epic win in the finals, stay tuned for the 30 for 30!

Top Performers for Pistons were Greg M with 22 points 7 rebounds, Peter T with a beast Kemp esque game 17 pts and 15 rebs on 86% shooting, as Pistons shot 40% FG and won rebounds 40-35.

Mudflaps had Patty on 26 points 6 rebounds 5 steals on 60% shooting! And Todd Rhodes with 18 points and 10 rebs, a solid double double with the run that won the game! Will F a draymond statline with 10pts 7assists & 6 assists! The team shot 40% also , dishing out 3 more assits and more steals…

Great game Pistons, and congrats to the CHF Mudflaps! UBL Division 1 Champions!

Div 2 was bound to be a good one, with history and rivalry on the table, The Sneaky Prawns would take on rivals the Gongstar crew, in their previous match, Prawns got up and left doubt int he mind of the usually solid Gongstar unit who went into this game ready to catch some bodies and stamp their name, but Prawns had a different end to the story…

First Quarter saw both teams a bit cautious on the inside with midrangers and 3s being put up and scrappy rebounds and put backs the flavour of the 12 mins to startIts http://cute-n-tiny.com/cute-animals/hamster-eating-coffee-beans/ viagra 25 mg intake facilitates the flow of blood towards the penis. Alex P already looking like  a force for Gongstar with 5 points and 5 rebs in the quarter and Vikas stepping up for the matchup with Alex with 4 and 3 to answer back, both teams warming up as the defense was heavy sending many passes into turnovers, 12-10 Gongstars up at the end of 1.

The next 12 minutes would show how evenly matche the two teams were at this game, the bigs of both teams going at it on the inside, and the guards putting on hard screens and scrapping for everything, Alex kept up his run almost nothing his double double early in the game with 14 and 9, the Prawns shared the attack with some made 3s and pull up Js getting it done, Gonstars pushing it inside and getting free throws as their shooting wasn’t as it was been in previous games, the 1st half would conclude with Vikas on 8 points and 10 rebounds and his team shooting 50%, faring better than Gongstar in that regard, all other stats even, but Gongstar forced prawns to turn the ball over 5 more times thus far.

2nd half action commenced with a bang as both teams got hungry on the break, the points piling in and the flow at a good pace, both teams not shooting well from deep, Gongstar not shooting many at all from behind the arc, as they kept their attack inside, finding extra passes, Vikas and Kieran hammered ht boards both in double digits, but the team only had 4 more than Gongstar so far, the quarter ended 35-34 Prawns taking the lead, hoping to keep it in the 4th.

The final Period of action played out and it was a tale of Prawns getting the jump on Gongstar and put them on the back foot for most of the quarter s bunch of unanswered points in quarter, both teams still not seeing the ball go in from deep so they kept it in the paint and inside the arc and it paid off for Prawns who were able to keep their pressure on the boards getting 10 more by the end of the game, giving them the extra oppourtunities to get buckets and close out the win, there were some big stats in this game, with some hungry Ballers that put everything on the line to step up in the Finals. Gongstar just unable to stop the runs and get stops as the Prawns activate don all angles to solidify the Championship trophy and honours!

Big stats from Gongstars Alex P, an Anthnoy davis statline of 23 points and 14 rebounds, beast game, and Froi F who got 8 points to help out with the offensive, whilst on Prawns, Vikas the MVP of the game with 16points and 22 rebounds, Andrew Drummond comes to mind, Karl ) got 9 points and Kieran on 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Great game Gongstar, Congrats to to Sneaky Prawns! UBL Division 2 Champions!
