Andy King Monday Mens

MONDAYS SEASON 7 IS OVER! The 7th season champions are crowned thisround as the best of the teams in each Div took on each others squad to find out who would hold the trophy high and claim the title for their franchise! Wasted Potential take Div 1, Bandicoots take Div 2, and LA Icons take Div 3!!! Epic season! Congrats to the winners and all who took part!

Division 1 saw the rise of the breakaway franchise from the Bandicoots, Wasted Potential.  Who went down to Shaqtn a Fools last season in the Grand Finals and looked to get revenge this time!

1st quarter started with some pace. Both teams putting their best players in positions to score and it was back and forth with bth teams hitting 3 threes each, Jet was starting to heat up with 8 points, but so was Elliot who also had 8 for Shaqtn, Mitch G from Wasted Ps  put in 9 points and Lachy  7 for Shaqtn ….this was going to be a grind of a game as the 2 best teams finished the 1st quarter with Shaqtn up 1 point.

2nd quarter saw the score go back and forth but the scoring picked up from the guard department on both teams, the D stepped up too, with Lachy CR getting 3 steals and pushing it to mount up 17 points, Jet as on fire this quarter and putting up some shots on the Shaqtn guards’ heads that left them wondering where this was last time they played! Jet hitting 5 threes so far keeping Shaqtn trying to push things to the next level as they were down by 1 at the half! All stats pretty even at this point with both teams sitting around 45%FG but Shaqn weren’t shooting well from deep and would need another gear in the 3rd.

3rd quarter saw the Wasted Ps find their way into the paint a couple of times and hti the fast break punishing Shaqtn many times after some missed shots.. Jet kept up his attack from outside keeping the guards out fo the paint allwoedin Dam B and Mitch Gurney to operate in the middle getting a few floaters to fall giving them a 6 point lead going into the 4th quarter, Jack H started heating up this quarter with 12 points so far in the game, but the Trio of Dan Jet and Mitch were controlling the lanes giving Shaqtn only 12 minutes to catch up in the 4th.

4th quarter had the Shaqtn defenders go into overdrive and were able to get stops and catch up as the quarter went on, Elliot  and Jack were on a mission and were pushing the ball into the paint on the break and from up top.Wasted Ps were able to keep up their steady scoring, jet still smouldering from the rest of the game, Seth got some buckets to go so his team was just up by a little going into the last minute. Shaqtn went to the line down 3, split the free throws and in a great defensive effort Elliot forced a jump ball which was tapped out and pushed around to a possible game winning 3 point shot! It wasn’t to be and fell short this time as the buzzer expired !

Wasted potential able to overcome a truly dominant team during the sesaon who were looking at a back to back but stopped by only 2 points! Unlucky on the last shot to win but Wasted Ps deserved this win working hard and having multiple players step up big time to shock the defending champs!

Top performers this game for Shaqtn were Elliot J, who had a great season averaging high 20s every week and this time end sup on 22 points 5 rebs and 2 steals on 42% shooting. Lachy Cr with a great game on both ends with 21pts, 6rebs, 7 assists and 3 steals. Jack H was efficient as he always is with some crucial buckets and a big double double 18 points and 13 boards! Shaqtn shot only 36% from the field and only won the rebounding battle by 4, but the big defecit was GH5 which Shaqtn shot 36% to Wasted Ps 45, the a lot of defense being played from both teams

Wasted Ps were operating on all cylinders as they got 4 ballers in double digits with some great statlines to seal the victory. Jet was the MVP for this game, with a huge night from 3, 23 points 6 rebounds, 2 steals oin 50% shooting and 7 threes to make his mark on this finals. Seth got 11 points hitting some big threes whilst Mitch Gurney shot 63% from the field for his 13 points slashing through the zone D with ease. Daniel B with a  cool double double with 13 and 12rebs, putting in 5 assists too to show his skillset. As a team they shot better with 45% and were able to just scrape by in the end a champion effort!

Great season to Shaqtn a fools only to fall short in the finals game! Well done to Wasted Potential, defying the odds and taking down a monster team. The standard is set, next season will be heated with competition after this tight finals where the underdog got up and claimed UBL glory!

Div 2 was a tight division this season with 5 of the middle of the 2 divs but putting up a show every week as each team was going the final game this season, but only 2 made it, Bandicoots, and Double Dribble!

1st quarter stared out slow for both teams, but they started warming up as the quarter went on, Bandicoots getting right out of the games quickly with some good passing and open shots inside the arc. Double Dribble putting up some outside shots, but not getting them to go this quarter and they turned the ball over 2 more times than Bandicoots indiciative of the defense being played already. Bandicoots held an 8 point lead going into the 2nd giving Double Dribble the task of playing catch up over the next 3 quarters.

2nd quarter had the   Bandicoots  slow down a bit scoring wise opening up the lane for Shayne R to get in and Grant to put in some post moves which kept the momentum towards the catchup.  Bandicoots  put up some threes this quarter as Double Dribble  weren’t clogging the inside well to stop the penetration. Double Dribble  caught up to within 5 points at the half which is only 2 buckets away from the lead!. Most stats even at this point, with Bandicoots shooting just a little better after a blinder of a first quarter.   Bandicoots looked to get back to forma nd extend the lead in the next quarter but  Double Dribble looked hungry and in control for a moment showing it was anyones game with half of it over.

3rd quarter had the bandcoots open up the lead a bit with some 3 bombs from Sam Conte and some strong inside play by Sam P  who were both leading the charge with 12 and 17 respectively so far. Double Dribble still having trouble with the Bandicoots defense which was sending     Double Dribble to the line keeping them in range to still make a comeback as they trailed by 11 now going into the final quarter and last chance to make a  dream run!

4th quarter was all Bandicoots as they carried their momentum into the 4tth to close the game out with a strong run 16*6, which was a final nail in the coffin for   Double Dribble who made one last push with Shayne R giving it his all and top scoring for his team , and Grant hustled down low but Double Dribble were in just too much of a hole to climb out of in the early stages of the game and copped the L this time. The  Bandicoots taking the championship this game in dominant fashion!

Great season to   Double Dribble to keep the other teams at bay and get to the Grand Finals to just fall short to a truly stacked team that executed well this game.

Top performers this game from Double Dribble were Shayne  R who dropped a big time double double on 13 points and 10 rebounds and 3 steals, Grant O was a force down low with 11 points and 5 rebs on 83% shooting. Double Dribble as a team shot 29%, not the best compared to their season average, as these threes get them through the game. They lost on rebounds by 12  and turned the ball over 7 more times, confronted with the stifling D by Bandicoots.

Bandicoots had Sam P step up big time and get 22 points and 10 reboudns in a big Finals double double on 47% shooting, the MVP this game based on that statline. Sam C was firing well from deep and getting a few step backs to go making a difference in this game with 12 points to help out with the load.

Div 3 was the last game on the fight cards tonight as the final grand finals was going to be a big one! The hype surrounding the Div 3 grand finals was huge as the LA Icons took on Dunkings, the team that has made many finals and wanted this to to add to their resume .

1st quarter started out with the energy from both team at a maximum level, Dimitri strapping up and suiting up for this game, hoping to lead the ICONs to victory over a battle tested Dunkings who don’t stand down to anyone. Sam H was running the point for ICONS, and the masterfully weaved his way around to fin the post players and get a few bucket himself with  8 in the quarter supported by Gordon D on 6 to give the ICONs the lead by 6 points at the quarter. The Dunkings saw a spread effort ton scoring with the damage down with 2 pointers as the shooters warmed up for the next quarter.

2nd quarter had Dimitri get some buckets to with 5 but Sam H was continuing to take what the defense gave him and put in 18 up to this point holding on to an 8 point lead after this quarter, Michael B was locked in and was putting in jumpers this quarter hitting 2 threes to keep Dunkings in range to catch the ICONs if they let their hustle drop a little. Jacob was starting to get his drive on with 6 points as the game hung in the balance.  The half time stats were pretty even but the turnovers were 10-4 with Dunkings taken aback from the handsy Icons who didn’t let down putting hands up stopping passes.

3rd quarter action proceeded with ICONs inching away a little more with both teams getting some inside action, as George  was a monster down low with 10 points up to the point and Sam B starting to get his usual bucket swith 8 so far, Pranav was great too with some and1s and buckets that kept the Dunkings hopeful that the gap could be covered, but it was now at 14 going into the 4th, Sam H still a beast with 24 on the sheet so far.

4th quarter was all Icons and George down low who was almost untouchable in this quarter pushing his total up to 21 and causing al sorts of issues for DUnkings and their mission to catchup. This was a tough ask as the lead was extended with every inside play from Icons, the bread and butter of their wins this season,    Ivan was hungry for his buckets  and always knows how to get hot even after being limited the rest of the game getting 11 points to lead his team in scoring .The Brothers from ICONS going to work and getting the job done after a grueling season!

Dunkings played great but were outdone by some veteran savvy and next level chemistry from ICONS. Watch out for Dunkings again next season as they look to get back to this point again as they have season after season!

Top performers for DUnkings was Ivan with 11 points slashing and hitting some threes to help thigns move along late game, Michael B was getting his shot to go just behind the top scorer on 10 points and hitting well set up shots efficienty too with 67% FG. Sam B was solid with a great 8 poitns and 8 rebounds in the grand finals. As a team Dunkings were even on most fronts, but fell short on turnovers and rebounds which made a big difference in the end tipping the game towards Icons.

ICONS had some big numbers with George and Sam H co- MVPs providing the statlines that got the victory for ICONS, Sam H was slick with his moves getting 24 points 4 rebs 4 assists making sure the turnovers were limited with some great ball protection. George was huuuge down low with 21 points and 13 rebounds on almost 50% shooting, a solid game that clinched the title!

Well done to all teams who participated this season, it was a long one since 2020 due to Covid and the Granf Finals was all that we hoped for with some epic games and solid moments!

Stay tuned for next season, are you back in? or in rebuild mode? Don’t lose your spot to have the chance to one day realize UBL glory like these champions!
